Immediately upon employment, full-time employees are eligible to enroll in a group health insurance plan through Advantage Health Solutions, Inc. Part-time employees may participate in the program, but must pay the full premium.
There is a 31-day election period for employees to enroll. If an employee declines coverage upon hire, enrollment can occur only if the employee has a life-style status event OR applies during open enrollment. Open enrollment occurs during the month of May with an effective date of June 1.
Employees living in St. Joseph County are eligible to participate in one of two plans—the HMO Plan (click here to view HMO benefits) or the Point-of-Service Plan (click here to view POS benefits). Employees living outside of St. Joseph county have an additional plan option, called a Non-Gatekeeper Plan, (click here to view Non-Gatekeeper benefits) that would allow them to utilize medical services closer to their residence.
Benefits are available on a single or family plan basis. The family plan covers the employee’s spouse and her/his dependent children under the age of 19. The plan covers dependent children up to age 25 if they are attending school full time and are not covered under another health care plan as an employee. Please refer to the Benefits-in-Brief sheet for current costs of the plans.
