Belles Avenge Another MIAA Loss
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - For the second straight match, the Saint Mary's College volleyball team avenged an MIAA loss from the beginning of the season with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19) win over Adrian College on Saturday afternoon.
The Belles stormed out to a big lead in the first set that helped propel them to a 25-13 decision. In the second set, Saint Mary's used a couple of short bursts of points to turn a tied set to a nine point win. The visiting Bulldogs would take the third set 25-23, but the Belles took advantage of five service errors in the fourth set to take the 3-1 win.
Andrea Sasgen had a match-high and career-high 19 kills for the Belles with just two errors for a .586 attacking percentage. She also added three block assists and an ace. Lorna Slupczynski had a strong all-around performance for the Belles as she had a 14 kill, 13 dig outing with four aces and a block assist. Stephanie Bodien also had a double-digit kill and dig afternoon with 10 kills and 10 digs. Danie Brink had another 40 assist day for the Belles while Ellen Huelsmann and Meghann Rose shared match-high honors with 15 digs.
The Belles, who fell to the Bulldogs in five sets earlier this season, have evened their record at 9-9 (5-5 MIAA). The Saint Mary's volleyball team will travel to Alma on Wednesday, October 14 for a 7:00 p.m. MIAA match against the Scots.
