During the last two seasons the Belles volleyball squad has played into the final weekend of league competition. After not reaching the MIAA's final four since 2000, Saint Mary's has qualified for back-to-back appearances.
The Belles played five teams that were ranked among the nations best in 2006 and then again in 2007.
In 2006 both the MIAA's best Defensive and Freshman players came from Saint Mary’s as Anne Cusack and Lorna Slupczynski took the honors. They were key components to a squad that posted a 17-10 overall record and reach the finals of two in-season tournaments and helped the Belles host a first-round MIAA Tournament game for the first time in seven years.
Under the guidance of Julie Schroeder-Biek ’88, who is entering her 14th season, Saint Mary’s has been a stalwart among the best academic teams in the nation. The 2004, 2005 and 2006 squads received AVCA national recognition by posting back-to-back GPA’s of 3.3.
