Opera for Children: El Gato Con Botas (Puss in Boots)
Saturday- February 18, Special Matinee: 2:30 p.m. only
SMC/ND/HCC Students: Free with Student ID
Children (ages12 and under): $5.00
Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002) wrote in a neo-classical style colored by popular tunes, folk song, and jazz. His early opera, El Gato con Botas (Puss in Boots) was written for children with a text by Charles Perrault. The story faithfully follows the familiar pantomime version of the tale; ogres are defeated, true love triumphs, and El Gato ends his days in the lap of luxury! Sung in English.
This opera is presented by the Department of Music.
A Bluegrass Mass and More
Students: $6
In their 23-year history, the South Bend Chamber Singers have performed many masses. But they have never performed one like this ─ bluegrass style. This concert features the Indiana premier of American composer Carol Barnett’s The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. The South Bend Chamber Singers will be joined by Minnesota’s electrifying bluegrass band, Monroe Crossing.
The video is of a performance of The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass that Monroe Crossing performed with the ISU Singers and the Ames Chamber Artists.

Music for a Sacred Space

The South Bend Chamber Singers close out their 23rd concert season by welcoming back a familiar face as a guest organist. The concert will feature Georg Frideric Handel’s Dixit Dominus, James MacMillan’s Magnificat, and Petr Eben’s Prague Te Deum.
