Belles Fall Short Against Wesleyan, Route Wartburg

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Mary's tennis team fell by a narrow 5-4 margin to undefeated Wesleyan, but responded with an 8-1 win over Wartburg on Tuesday on their Spring Break trip.

Jillian Hurley and Mary Therese Lee continued a strong start to their spring at #2 doubles as they battled for an 8-6 win.

Hurley had a hard-fought win at #1 singles for the Belles.  She jumped out to a lead with a 6-4 win in her first set.  After falling in a tie-breaker in the second set, she stormed through the third and decisive set with a 6-1 victory.  Camille Gebert had a similar outcome at #2 singles by winning the first and third sets of her match.  Franca Peluso, meanwhile, took a commanding win at #4 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 decision.

Against Wartburg, the Belles rolled to an 8-1 victory.  Leading the way were Jillian Hurley, Camille Gebert, and Jessica Kosinski, who each surrendered only four games in their #1, #2, and #3 singles matches.  Hurley won 6-4, 6-0 while Gebert and Kosinski took 6-2, 6-2 victories.

The Belles (5-2) will take on St. Francis (Ill.) tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
