2012 Tennis Outlook
The 2012 season marks the first year that the end-of-season MIAA Tournament will feature only the top four teams in the league. This year’s tennis team will look to improve upon the 2011 squad's third place finish in the MIAA this spring under the guidance of fourth year head coach Dale Campbell. They will have to do so after the graduation of five seniors, all of whom were in the daily lineup for the Belles a year ago.
Helping to lead that charge toward the top four in the conference will be a trio of sophomores in Mary Catherine Faller, Margaret Boden, and Sarah Monte. Making an immediate impact on the team in their first year with the Belles, Faller and Boden will be looked upon for their match experience this spring. Faller had 12 singles victories and ten doubles wins last spring. Boden, meanwhile, was also a major contributor and played in the majority of number one doubles in her rookie season at Saint Mary's.
Joining the Belles in 2012 are a handful of freshmen looking to make some noise on the courts. Among those newcomers to the team are several all-conference and all-area honorees as well as sectional and state championship winners.
The Belles will kick of their season on Friday, February 17 when they host #14 regionally ranked Case Western Reserve at Notre Dame's Eck Tennis Pavilion. Their conference opener is Sunday, March 4 against Olivet at Michigan State.
