NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Saint Mary’s athletic department has announced that Alicia Dombkowski has been promoted to the head coach position of the Belles swimming and diving program.
For each of the past two seasons, Alicia Dombkowski has served as a volunteer assistant under her husband Ryan Dombkowski. Ryan Dombkowski will continue to serve on the coaching staff as well as maintaining his teaching role within the Saint Mary’s biology department.
HOLLAND, MI – After the third and final day at the MIAA swimming/diving championships Saint Mary’s finished with a fifth place showing, tallying 182 team points. Calvin defended their title with 660 points to win the crown for the third consecutive season.
The Belles fifth place finish is the best team results they had at the MIAA championships since the 2001 season.
HOLLAND, MI – After the second of three days at the MIAA swimming/diving championships Saint Mary’s remains in fifth place with 129 team points. Defending champion Calvin continues to lead with 497 points held at the Holland Aquatic Center.
HOLLAND, MI - After the first day of the MIAA swimming/diving championships the Saint Mary’s Belles are in fifth place with 58 points. Defending champion Calvin leads the event held at the Holland Aquatic Center with 228 points.
NOTRE DAME, IN – For the third time in the last four swimming/diving meets the Saint Mary’s team result came down to the final event and for the third occasion Saint Mary’s came out on the short end of the stick. Kalamazoo posted victory in the 16th and final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay, to record a 149-145 win on Friday evening.
The win lifts the Hornets dual meet record to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in MIAA meets while Saint Mary’s dual meet season ends with records of 4-6 and 2-4 respectively.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Calvin posted wins in nine of the first 10 events in posting a 131-99 dual meet swimming/diving win over Saint Mary’s Friday evening.
Calvin, who’s ranked fourth in the country, improves its dual meet record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 during MIAA meets while Saint Mary’s falls to 5-5 and 2-3 respectively.
HILLSDALE, MI – In Saint Mary’s final non-conference dual meet of the season, Hillsdale posted a win in the 200 yard freestyle relay – the meet’s final event – by four-tenths of second to secure a 121-115 win over the Belles.
In dual meets this year Saint Mary’s falls to 5-4 overall while Hillsdale improves its record to 3-3.
OLIVET, MI – In a tightly contested MIAA swimming and diving dual meet, a deeper Olivet squad nudged by Saint Mary’s 153-137 Friday evening at the Upton Center pool. The Hornets won 11 of the 16 event competed in during the victory.
Saint Mary’s dual meet record moves to 5-3 overall and 2-2 during league competition while Olivet ups its mark to 1-3 and 1-1 respectively.
HOLLAND, MI – In their first dual meet of 2008, the Saint Mary’s swimming/diving team dropped a 153-130 decision to Hope on Friday evening at the Holland Aquatic Center. The Flying Dutch won 10 of the 16 events in claiming the meet.
The loss drops Saint Mary’s to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in dual meets while Hope moves its perfect record to 5-0 and 4-0 respectively.
ALMA, MI – The Saint Mary’s swimming and diving squad finished the first half of their schedule with a 181-111 win over Alma Saturday afternoon at McClure Natatorium. Saint Mary’s won nine of the 16 events competed in
The Belles record now stands at 5-1 in dual meets with a 2-0 mark against league foes.
GREENCASTLE, IN – The Saint Mary’s swimming team finished fifth out of 11 teams with 362 points at the DePauw Invitational. DePauw won the event with 835 points.
Melissa Gerbeth had one of the top meets in terms of individual swimmers. She tallied 31 of the Belles points by herself. The junior finished second in the 1650 yard freestyle, finishing in 18:19.96. Gerbeth finished sixth in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:01.20. She also placed fifth in the 500 yard freestyle event (5:22.45).
ALBION, MI – In the first MIAA dual meet of the season for the Saint Mary’s swim and diving squad, the Belles posted a 134-100 win over Albion on Friday evening at the Dean Aquatic Center. The Belles won eight of the 13 events competed.
Saint Mary’s raises its dual meet record to 4-1 overall (1-0 MIAA) while Albion falls to 0-3 in both overall and league results.
WABASH, IN – In a tri-meet against Illinois Wesleyan and Rose-Hulman, the Saint Mary’s swim team posted two wins. The Belles beat Illinois Wesleyan 157-72 and knocked off Rose-Hulman 183-44 in the non-conference swim meets hosted by Wabash College.
Saint Mary’s has a 3-1 record after the two wins today.
CHICAGO, IL – The Saint Mary’s swim team opened up the dual meet season by splitting meets against the University of Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology on Friday evening. The Belles beat IIT by a count of 74-31 but fell to the Maroons, 63-47.
