FORT MYERS, Fla. - After falling in their first game of the day by an 8-5 score, the Saint Mary's softball team took a commanding 10-0 win in their second game to earn a split on Tuesday.
The Belles had some big hits in their 8-5 loss to New Jersey City in the early game of the day. Ashley Peterson, Morgan Bedan, Hayley Bojorquez, and Angela Gillis each went 2-for-4 at the plate and accounted for all five of the team's runs. Peterson, Bedan, and Bojorquez each had a single and a home run for their two hits. Bedan and Gillis each scored once and drove in a run. Peterson scored two runs and had an RBI while Bojorquez scored a run and drove in two.
Monica Palicki shouldered the loss in the circle, striking out five and walking five while pitching a complete game.
In game two, eight different players notched at least one hit in the 10-0 five inning win over Anna Maria. Hayley Bojorquez led the way as she was 3-for-3 in the game with a run scored and an RBI. Lauren Enayati and Maureen Healy both went 2-for-4 with a single and a double for Saint Mary's. Kristen Nelson was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk to help pace the offense.
Ashley Ward, meanwhile, hit a single and drove in a run in her first collegiate at-bat. Peterson and Bedan each added a double and scored a run. Angela Gillis threw all five innings, striking out three and allowing two hits while going 1-for-2 from the plate with a run scored of her own.
Saint Mary's (4-2) will take on Wartburg and Wooster tomorrow morning on their fourth of five days of competition on their Spring Break trip.
