Season Outlook
Coming off of their sixth consecutive season with at least 20 wins, the Saint Mary's softball team will look to continue the tradition of success established by head coach Erin Sullivan while looking to claim their first MIAA season championship in 2012.
The Belles will have a veteran team taking the field in the spring with many of last spring's starters returning this year, including all six players who hit above .300 in 2011. Among that group of returning athletes is two-time All-MIAA honoree Lauren Enayati ’12. The senior outfielder has started in over 100 games and has collected 140 career hits.
Joining Enayati will be eight players who saw time in at least 20 games last spring. Sophomore Callie Selner ’14 led the Belles in batting average (.403) and slugging percentage (.627) during her freshman season. Junior catcher Morgan Bedan ’13 will return behind the plate after hitting .400 last spring and leading the team in both runs scored (27) and total bases (59). Pitchers Monica Palicki ’12, Angela Gillis ’12, and Selner have combined for over 670 innings pitched in the last three seasons.
Joining the Belles in 2012 will be five freshmen hailing from five different states (Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Texas, and California).
The team kicks off their season in Fort Myers, Florida at the annual Gene Cusic Classic hosted by the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department. The Belles will have ten games in five days to open up the season in the Sunshine State. The team returns north to take on Wheaton on the road on March 20 and host their home opener on March 24 against Adrian.
