Scholarships and Awards

Institutional Merit Scholarships & Awards
Saint Mary's College is committed to making it possible for qualified students to enroll regardless of financial circumstances. As part of this commitment, Saint Mary's offers various levels of academic (merit) scholarships without regard to financial need.
  • Recipients are selected at the time of admission, on the basis of their academic achievements in high school.
  • Transfer students are selected at the time of admission, on the basis of their academic achievements in previous college credit earned.
  • For maximum merit scholarship consideration, applicants must complete their Application for Admission and Scholarship (including submission of all credentials) no later than February 15.

Merit scholarships may be awarded for a maximum of eight (8) semesters. Grade point averages are reviewed once per year, at the conclusion of the spring semester. Funding will be renewed annually, provided the student maintains full-time enrollment and the cumulative grade point average required for her award.

Merit funds are restricted to tuition and may be reduced if other tuition-restricted funds are received from outside sources.

The Saint Mary's Scholarship Committee evaluates the total profile of each student by reviewing:

  • The challenge of her curriculum
  • Grade point average
  • Class rank (when appropriate)
  • Test scores
  • Extracurricular activities

Factors are not considered in isolation, so each scholar presents a unique profile.

The six levels of academic scholarships are as follows:

  • Moreau Presidential
  • Presidential Scholarship
  • Dean's Scholarship
  • Madeleva Scholarship
  • Le Mans Award
  • Bertrand Award

Need-Based Awards

Endowed, Restricted, and Alumnae Scholarships

These scholarships, named for a specific donor or group, are awarded as part of need-based institutional grant assistance. In most cases, the named scholarship replaces Saint Mary's Grant funding, thus changing the source of the gift assistance, but not the total.

These scholarships are awarded by the Financial Aid Office in accordance with the specific requirements of the scholarship donors. Awards are generally restricted to tuition only and are available for a maximum of eight semesters.

Funding is renewed for upper class students who:

  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, AND
  • Continue to demonstrate financial need per their annual aid applications, AND
  • Continue to meet any restricted criteria specified by the donor (e.g., pursue a certain major, reside in a specific geographic area).

Funding may also be granted to first-year or transfer students who meet the specified criteria at the lowest level, or to any upper class student with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need who meets the donor's specifications.
