June 3, 2009 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—Saint Mary's College is pleased to announce that Richard Speller will join the College on July 1 as the vice president for finance and administration. Speller has 25 years of business and financial management experience as chief financial officer (CFO) at three highly regarded independent colleges and universities. Speller will serve as Saint Mary’s CFO and supervise a broad range of financial and administrative areas, including financial analysis, planning and budgeting, investments, facilities, purchasing, human resources and payroll, campus stores, and food services.
“I look forward to working with Dick Speller. His experience and leadership will be a great asset to Saint Mary’s as we plan for the continued advancement and improvement of this great College,” said President Carol Ann Mooney.
“I am excited to be joining the leadership team at Saint Mary’s College and to have the opportunity to serve Saint Mary’s in a critical role that will contribute to the College’s achieving its goals and aspirations,” Speller said.
Speller was most recently the vice president for finance and administration at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., where he served for eight years. From 1992-2000 he was vice president for finance and treasurer at Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College) in Glenside, Penn. He was the vice president for business affairs at Jamestown College in Jamestown, N.D. from 1983-1992. Speller received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Jamestown College and a master’s in business administration (MBA) from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Penn. He is a licensed certified public accountant (CPA).
Speller fills the position vacated by Laurie L. Stickelmaier, who left the College earlier this year to take the position of vice president for finance and business at The College of Wooster.
