July 9, 2010 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—Saint Mary’s College welcomes ten new members to the Board of Trustees. The Board elected eight members and appointed two at its spring meeting. The terms, which began last month, range from one to three years.

Elected to three year terms on the board (2010-2013) are Michael E. Cahill, Nancy Roberts Dobson '70, Thomas P. Fitzgerald, Catherine Hammel Frischkorn '75, Sister Judith Hallock, CSC '65 and Beth Lichtenfels Veihmeyer '77. Elected to two-year terms (2010-2012) are Joan Gifford LeSage '71 and Sister Rose Anne Schultz, CSC '66. The new Alumnae Board President, Linda Kawecki '79, was appointed to a two-year term (2010-2012). The Board also appointed Emma Hoffman '11 as the Student Trustee, to a one-year term (2010-2011). Mary L. Burke '85 was elected the new Chair of the Board of Trustees, a three-year term (2010-2013). Burke has been on the Board since 2005. Paula M. Dawning '71 was elected Secretary, a three-year term (2010-2013). Dawning has been a member of the Board since 2006.

Re-elected to the Board for three-year terms are Sarah Belanger Earley '71 and the Rev. Kenneth M. Molinaro, CSC. This is the third term for both Earley and Molinaro. Sister Michelle Germanson, OP was elected to her second three-year term. Meanwhile, Saint Mary’s College thanks the Trustees who departed the Board as of May 31. They are:

Goodyear, Kratzer, O’Connor and Veihmeyer were named as inaugural members of the President’s Circle, an advisory group to Saint Mary's College President Carol Ann Mooney. Membership is limited to Trustees who have served a minimum of nine years on the Saint Mary's College Board of Trustees.

Michael E. Cahill
is president and chief operating officer of The Options Clearing Corporation in Chicago. Cahill graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and from DePaul University with a master’s degree in business administration in 1987. Cahill is involved in a number of organizations, including Boy Scouts of America, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Financial Markets Working Group and the Notre Dame Club of Chicago. His wife, Margaret E. Bucher Cahill ’80, and their daughters, Megan M. Cahill ’07 and Catherine E. Cahill ’09, are all graduates of Saint Mary's College. The couple also has a son.

Nancy Roberts Dobson '70 is executive vice president of Uniland Development Company in Amherst, New York. She graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and in 2003 received the Shannon Executive Scholar Award from the College. Dobson currently sits on a number of boards, including Claremont Housing for the Elderly; People, Inc.; People, Inc. Foundation; and the Kenmore Mercy Hospital Foundation. She and her husband Arthur have two grown children.

Thomas P. Fitzgerald is a capital partner with the international law firm Winston & Strawn LLP. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1979. Fitzgerald is currently a member of two other boards in the Chicago area—Loyola University Health System and Leaders Bank. He is also involved with the American Cancer Society and is school board president at Saint Isaac Jogues in Hinsdale. His daughter Emily Ann Fitzgerald ‘08 is a graduate of Saint Mary's College and his mother attended Saint Mary's in the 1940s.

Catherine Hammel Frischkorn '75
is involved with many civic and charitable organizations, including serving as a board member and volunteer for the Crossroads Foundation and as vice president of the Saint Bernard Parish Conference of the Pittsburgh Society for Saint Vincent de Paul. She graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She and her husband Jack Frischkorn have two daughters and two sons, all grown. Julie Frischkorn ’01 and Katie Frischkorn ’06 are graduates of Saint Mary's College.

Sister Judith Hallock, CSC '65 is currently on sabbatical and awaiting a new ministry assignment from leadership of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Her past ministries include serving as the area coordinator of North America for the Sisters of the Holy Cross; as pastoral associate/director of adult programs/parish social ministries at Saint Ignatius, Martyr, Parish in Austin; and general councilor for the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Earlier ministries include serving as a teacher and assistant principal in elementary schools. She currently is a member of the Leadership Development Committee for the Sisters of the Holy Cross. Her past board experience includes being a member of the Holy Cross Health System Board of Trustees (1990-2000) and the Saint Joseph Medical Center Board of Trustees (1984-1989), both in South Bend. Sister Judith graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1965 with a bachelor’s degree in social science and theology. She received her master’s in religious education from LaSalle College in Philadelphia in 1975.

Beth Lichtenfels Veihmeyer '77 is involved with many civic and charitable organizations in Maryland, including serving as a board member for the Providence Hospital Foundation and SOAR! (Support Our Aging Religious). She is co-founder of KPMG Family for Literacy. Veihmeyer’s professional career includes working as a public relations consultant for Rand Construction Company. She served on the Saint Mary's College Alumnae Association Board of Directors from 1991-1996 and was its president from 1994-96. As president, she served two years on the Board of Trustees. Veihmeyer graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and earned a master’s degree in public relations from American University. Her husband, John B. Veihmeyer (ND ’77), just completed nine years on the Saint Mary's Board of Trustees. The couple has three children. Eileen Veihmeyer ’13 is a student at Saint Mary's College.

Joan Gifford LeSage '71
is assistant general counsel for Commercial and Environmental Law for the Southern California Gas Company. Her community efforts include coordinating the company’s law department’s participation in building a Habitat for Humanity house in the San Diego area and working with local Bar Associations to provide community legal services for underserved communities. In 1971 she graduated from Saint Mary's College, magna cum laude, with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She received her law degree from UCLA School of Law. She is married to Bernard LeSage (ND ’71) and the couple has two sons.

Sister Rose Anne Schultz, CSC '66
is completing a year of sabbatical after serving as vice president for mission at Saint Mary’s College from 1994-2009. Her work at Saint Mary’s began in 1990 as the director of administration and mission at the Center for Spirituality. She sat on the College’s Board of Regents from 1980-1990, serving as the Chair from 1986-1990. In 2009, Sister Rose Anne received the President’s Medal for her service to the College. Her current community service and volunteer activities include serving at Saint Margaret’s House, a day center for women and children in South Bend, and as a member of the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center Quality Committee. Sister Rose Anne holds a bachelor’s degree in music and secondary education from Saint Mary’s and a master’s degree in religious education from the University of Detroit.

Linda Kawecki '79
joins the Saint Mary's College Board of Trustees as the new president of the Saint Mary's College Alumnae Board. Kawecki is a corporate financial executive with more than 20 years experience overseeing financial and operational analysis, strategic planning and budget processing and monitoring. Her background includes working as the director of financial analysis at Tenet Health Systems and as a marketing analyst for American Airlines. She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Saint Mary's College in 1979 and a master’s degree in business administration at Southern Methodist University. She is married to D. Michael Hellinghausen. The couple has three children at home.

Emma Hoffman '11
is a senior at Saint Mary’s majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. Her current campus activities include serving as the mission commissioner for the Student Government Association; as a peer minister; and as treasurer of the Biology Club. Past service at the College includes serving on the Sophomore Class Board and as the First Year Class President. Her current community service includes working as a volunteer at Healthwin and Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center.
