Time: 7 p.m.
Place: Spes Unica, Room 145
Description: To mark the 71st anniversary of Kristallnacht - the Night of the Broken Glass, when the Nazis began the systematic persecution of Jews in Germany and Austria - we invite you to participate in an evening of remembrance and discussion. Come learn about these crimes against humanity, and what we can each do to keep such violence from happening again.
To guide us in our reflection, Ernesto Verdeja, Professor of Political Science and Peace Studies at Notre Dame, will offer this presentation. A fellow at the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, Professor Verdeja's scholarship has focused on large-scale political violence, transitional justice, forgiveness, and reconciliation. He is the author of the recently published book, "Unchopping a Tree: Reconciliation in the Aftermath of Political Violence," and he is currently working on a book about comparative genocide and moral bystanders.
Professor Verdeja's lecture is co-sponsored by the Departments of History, Modern Languages, and Psychology and Communicative Disorders, the Office of Campus Ministry, and the Justice Education Program.
Admission: Free and open to the public.
