Feb. 23, 2009 (Notre Dame, Ind.)— After a national search, Saint Mary's College is pleased to welcome Linda Paskiewicz PhD, RN, CNM as the director of the Department of Nursing. Paskiewicz brings to the program a wealth of nursing, teaching and research experience.

Paskiewicz's career spans four decades and includes over 12 years of service to the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing at Loyola University Chicago. At Loyola Paskiewicz served in various capacities, including associate professor, associate dean of faculty, director of the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program, chairperson of the Department of Primary Care, Health Promotion, Health Systems Management and Dietetics, and chairperson of the Department of Maternal Child Nursing. She has researched and published extensively in the areas of obesity, pregnancy, perinatal loss and mothering.

At Saint Mary’s College Paskiewicz will lead the Department of Nursing’s traditional undergraduate baccalaureate program and the accelerated baccalaureate program. Nursing is one of Saint Mary’s hallmark programs and one of the College’s six nationally accredited academic programs. Vice President and Dean of Faculty Patricia Ann Fleming said the College is very proud to have Paskiewicz join the department.

“The nursing department faculty have embraced Linda whole-heartedly, and she them,” Fleming said. “I expect she will help lead our department in many important initiatives including accreditation, curriculum review, and assessment, expansion of our clinical sites, possible expansion of our degree programs, and preservation of the integrity of the nursing faculty through equitable course loads.”

Paskiewicz looks forward to the opportunity to come to Saint Mary’s College. “I found the emphasis on excellence to be a driving force at Saint Mary’s College and one that I value and find energizing,” Paskiewicz said. “I am excited to have the opportunity to work with such talented, dedicated nursing faculty members in educating the professional nurses of the future.”

At Saint Mary’s, the head of the Department of Nursing was traditionally referred to as the chair of the department. The title is now director, which is comparable to how other colleges and universities refer to this position.

Fleming thanked The Hollander Group, an executive search consulting company, and a College search committee, headed by former Vice-President and Dean of Faculty Dorothy Feigl and consisting of College faculty and an alumna, for bringing the search to a fruitful conclusion. Paskiewicz starts her position on June 1.
