June 21, 2010 (Notre Dame, Ind.)—Saint Mary's College is pleased to announce that after a national search for candidates for vice president for enrollment, Mona Bowe has accepted the position. Bowe has served in Saint Mary’s Office of Admission in various capacities since 1995, most recently as the director of admission. She assumed her new role earlier this month. “Mona has served Saint Mary's for 15 years and brings dedication, technical expertise, a strong work ethic, creativity, and energy to her new position. I am very pleased to offer her this promotion,” said Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney.
Over the past four years, Bowe and the Enrollment Management Team have laid groundwork that is in line with goals set in President Mooney’s Strategic Plan, which include increasing the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of the student body and stabilizing and growing enrollment. Bowe’s accomplishments as director include helping to:
- Increase and stabilize enrollment of first year students in the last four years
- Increase the number of underrepresented groups in the incoming first year class from under 10% to 14.9 % in four years
- Optimize the College’s financial aid packaging with the goal of increasing the incoming class in size and minority representation while maintaining the academic profile.
Bowe says she will continue to use the Strategic Plan as her office’s compass. “I welcome the opportunity to support the plan’s initiatives—to improve the academic profile of the first year class; educate our students for a global community; diversify the student body and staff; and maybe most importantly, stabilize and grow enrollment. I believe with all my heart that Saint Mary’s has a proud past and a bright future and I am looking forward to this opportunity to take a greater leadership role in making this bright future a reality.”
Bowe joined the College in 1995 as an admission counselor. In 1997, she was promoted to assistant director of admission. In 1999, she was promoted to associate director of admission. The College promoted her again in 2005 to director of admission. Before coming to Saint Mary’s College, Bowe worked as the executive director of the American Heart Association in Mishawaka (1994-1995); in managerial positions with Up with People in Denver, Colo. (1988-1994); and as a 1st grade English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Centro Escolar Patria in Mexico City, Mexico. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Normal Particular 01 Del Estado De Mexico in Mexico City.
Bowe fills the position vacated by Daniel Meyer, who left the College earlier this year to take the position of vice president for admission and financial aid at DePauw University.
