Post-Graduate Service
Post-Graduate Service
More and more students are considering taking a year or two following graduation to work with a domestic or international service agency. These programs are an excellent way to build up professional experience, make a very real difference in the world, and discern where your gifts and aspirations lie.
Most post-graduate programs run 1-2 years, include housing and a stipend, and allow you to defer student loans. Some will also assist with travel expenses.
There are several organizations that can assist you in exploring what programs might be right for you. The Catholic Network of Volunteer Service (CNVS), for example, allows you to use a search tool where you can look for placements by a variety of factors such as location, type of work, length of service, and amenities (housing, etc.).
We encourage you to spend some time looking through the agencies, thinking carefully about your own goals, and talking with people who have done post-graduate service previously. (Contact the OCSE to find out who has served previously and might be willing to talk with you.)
