Assistant Professor of Nursing
Cindy Iavagnilio RN, MSN, CRNA has been an assistant professor of nursing at Saint Mary’s College since 2004. Prior to coming to Saint Mary’s College, she practiced as a nurse anesthetist for 12 years. Since becoming an educator, she has taught the Fundamentals of Nursing Course. She was responsible for the design, development, and the acquisition of equipment for the Clinical Nursing Skills Laboratory, and a new Physical/Health Assessment and SimMan Laboratory. She was instrumental in bringing the Pedagogy of “Simulation” to the College, coordinates and oversees the instructional and operational aspects of all simulation activities and has served as a mentor to other nursing faculty with the integration of simulation into their courses. She strives to become a “leader” in the area of education and simulation and continues her professional growth and development by attending and presenting at several seminars and workshops on Simulation. The use of high-fidelity simulation (HFS) mannequins or human patient simulators is a recent advancement that has been playing a larger role in undergraduate nursing education. Her area of interest for both teaching and research is “how best to prepare students for the clinical setting using simulation”. She is currently collaborating with junior faculty on completing a research project related to this transition.
