Dr. Green, associate professor emerita, earned her bachelor's degree in English and communication from Purdue University, her master's degree in performance studies from Northwestern University, and her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Northern Illinois University. Her career in secondary education included teaching English and communications, as well as serving as high school principal. In July of 2000, she retired from Community High School District 155 in Crystal Lake, Illinois as assistant superintendent in charge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and staff development. In her administrative roles, she supervised beginning teachers and came to see the importance of shaping pre-service teachers as the kind of reflective practitioners who can address the increasing complexity of teaching. She joined the Education department of Saint Mary's College in 2000 where she taught the introductory education course, secondary education methods courses, special methods in English, and a course that explores the theory and practice of multicultural service-learning pedagogy. She retired from the College in the spring of 2011.

Dr. Green has served as an overseas evaluator for the North Central Association for American military base schools in Turkey, Italy, Okinawa, Japan, and Germany. She has presented at state, national and international conferences on various topics regarding school reform and leadership. During a sabbatical in 2009, Dr. Green expanded her research interests to the retention of new teachers, interviewing 39 graduates of the Saint Mary’s College Secondary Education Program who are teaching in seven states. These graduates, ranging in experience from two to nine years in the classroom, have defied the national statistic that reports a 50% attrition rate by the 5th year in the classroom.
