Singer and Scholar

In some ways, Kristina Schliesman knew where her passions would lead her as a child growing up in Knoxville, Tenn. “I always loved music,” she says, “and I always knew I wanted to teach.” In 2006, Kristina graduated summa cum laude from Saint Mary’s with a major in music education and a minor in religious studies. She won a full tuition scholarship to the master’s in sacred music program at the University of Notre Dame, where she’s pursuing graduate studies. At Saint Mary’s, Kristina let her voice be heard, singing in the women’s choir, operas, and madrigal dinners. Where will her passions lead her after graduate school? “They change every day,” says Kristina of her plans—but possibilities include teaching, pursuing a doctorate, working as a church music director, or going into campus ministry.
