Latin American Studies Minor


Develop your knowledge of the culture and history of Latin America and enhance your Spanish language skills with a minor in Latin American Studies. You will study Latin American literature and history in the modern languages department, as well as explore the identity of Latin American peoples through courses in various departments on the history, politics, and culture of the countries of Central and South America. Students are encouraged to apply and deepen their understanding of Latin American Studies by studying abroad.

Latin American Studies Minor (12 hours)

  • Two courses (6 hours) in Latin American studies, from among the following:
    • MLSP 317 Latin American Civilization
    • MLSP 425 Latin American Regional Novel
    • MLSP 427 Contemporary Latin American Narrative
    • MLSP 429 Latin American Women Writers
    • MLSP 431 Latin American Poetry
  • Two courses (6 hours) in other disciplines related to Latin America (history, economics, political science, sociology, etc.)
