Programs - Requirements

The following program is suggested for Humanistic Studies majors. The student may begin in her sophomore or junior year. If she is planning to student teach, to attend the Washington Semester or Semester Around the World Program, or to study abroad at any time during her junior or senior year, the student should begin the Program as a sophomore. Twenty-seven credit hours in nine required courses are necessary to complete the major. Students must take courses in the sequence outlined below.

Double Majors

Courses taken outside the major may be selected to complement the Humanistic Studies Program or to provide the student with a second area of concentration. Many students combine a major in Humanistic Studies with a major or minor in another discipline such as English, Economics, Political Science, History, Philosophy, Psychology, or Religious Studies. With careful planning, a few students have double majored in the fine arts, science, or business. Students with a double major are urged to fulfill the requirements in their other major as quickly as possible in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with their required HUST courses.

Minors

A minor in Humanistic Studies requires a minimum of fifteen hours of major courses (listed abovel). Minors usually complete the first year of the Program. They are encouraged to start the Program in their junior year.
