Director - Human Resources:  Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN seeks a hands-on, working Director of Human Resources to plan, implement and manage the human resource function of the College.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, a minimum of five years of related work experience, preferably in a higher education setting, strong knowledge of applicable state and federal laws related to human resources management, and a strong knowledge of computerized human resource information systems.  Banner experience is a plus.  Must also have an understanding of and commitment to the mission of Saint Mary’s College.

Assistant Director, Web Communications:  Saint Mary’s College seeks a full-time web developer. Responsible for the day-to-day back-end operations of the College’s internet and intranet websites. Will also assist in the development, implementation, enhancement and/or maintenance of multiple department/division websites and act as resource for web-based projects. Also conducts user training of content management system for various offices. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field with experience in web development. Must have experience on a Mac platform, expert knowledge of semantic HTML and CSS, experience with open source content management systems -- preferably Drupal, and familiarity with PHP/MySQL, Adobe Creative Suite, Flash and Javascript/JQuery.

Director of Networking & System Administration: Saint Mary’s College seeks a full-time working director to be responsible for the overall computing environment which supports the College.  Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, a minimum of three years of management experience in a technology environment supporting end-users, and five years’ experience in use of the following:  VMware, Windows Server, Exchange, network administration, SAN management (iSCSI preferred), security, and UNIX/Linux systems administration.  Personal computing and scripting/programming experience also needed.

General Statement of Duties:

Plans and leads activity related to upgrade, enhancement, and maintenance of Saint Mary’s College administrative software, including the Banner ERP system. Spearheads administrative systems analysis activity and assists in the selection and development of administrative software for the College. Works with the College community to identify new administrative system needs and to prioritize the resolution of these needs. Serves as a ‘hands-on’ manager with responsibility to ensure that the administrative systems team works to effectively meet the College’s Administrative systems needs in the instructional and administrative areas of the College.

Supervision Received:

General supervision and direction is received from the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Supervision Exercised:

This position exercises functional supervision over programming staff. Also may supervise student workers as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. Master’s degree a plus.
  • Experience in higher education’s administrative and instructional technology and be fluent in its language and capable of translating technical information into non-technical
  • Familiarity with all Banner modules used by the College and technical experience with human resources and financial modules
  • Solid and provable working knowledge of systems analysis and design methods.
  • Proficient knowledge related to Unix/Linux/Windows operating systems, including use of compilers, shell scripting, and web interfaces.
  • Solid familiarity with potential open source solutions.
  • Demonstrable systems troubleshooting skills.
  • Provable Oracle internals and PL/SQL coding expertise, as it relates to Banner.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff and administration.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of database design, use and tuning.
  • Knowledge of other programming languages (C, Java, Perl, etc.).

Examples of Dueies:

  1. Ensuring the development and implementation of database backup procedures to ensure data integrity, making sure adequate resources are available.
  2. Ensuring timely application of Banner and other software upgrades and patches to meet needs related to Banner system performance.
  3. Ensuring that appropriate security is configured in Oracle and Banner to protect SMC data while allowing users to effectively perform their jobs.
  4. Providing direct user primary support for one or more major Banner modules, with a strong preference for the HR and/or Finance module.
  5. Providing secondary support for all other Banner module users.
  6. Collaborating in the development of reporting processes using institutional administrative system data. These processes should support end user self-reporting, wherever possible and practical.
  7. Confirming that appropriate interfaces are developed for data sharing between the administrative data bases and other college systems (i.e., Security, Blackboard, and Dining Services) and with external systems (Follett, Sodexo).
  8. Helping users identify and use appropriate procedures and software, thereby allowing them to perform more effectively.
  9. Providing oversight for related coding, testing and documentation activity.
  10. Assisting the CIO in maintaining effective communication between the Department, the
    College community, and vendors.
  11. Performing other duties as required.

Chief Information Officer:  Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana seeks a full-time Chief Information Officer to implement and guide the college in the effective and innovative use of technology as a strategic resource.   The CIO provides strategic leadership and operational management for all information technology and telecommunications services (both administrative and academic technologies), operations and related services that support student learning, administrative processes, faculty and staff development, community service, and communications.   Qualifications include a master’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, a record of successful information technology administration in higher education, knowledge to oversee work in Windows and UNIX (Solaris/Linus) environments, database systems (Banner, Oracle), networking (WAN, LAN and WLAN) and Learning Management Systems (Blackboard).  Knowledge of state-of-the-art security technologies, practices and policies and knowledge of web-based/Cloud resources to support the needs of the College is desirable.  For a full job description see below:

The CIO provides strategic leadership and operational management for all information technology and telecommunications services (both administrative and academic technologies), operations and related services that support student learning, administrative processes, faculty and staff development, community service, and communications.  The CIO works collaboratively with constituent groups in setting priorities for the deployment of information technology to carry out the instructional and administrative goals and objectives of the college. The CIO may have an adjunct faculty appointment, depending on qualifications.

Primary report to the Vice President/Dean of Faculty: secondary report to the Vice President for Finance and Administration.

Exercises direct supervision over Information Technology and Telecommunications staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Works with the President’s Cabinet to provide leadership in the selection, design, implementations, integration, and ongoing support for all information systems throughout the college.  Implements policies, standards, practices and security measures to ensure effective and appropriate use of and to enhance access to all networked resources and information systems. Supervises the day-to-day operation of the department in effective and reliable systems and services.  Collaborates in the leadership and management of the information technology needs of the College through vision, technical knowledge, leadership and management skills, to help make it a leading college in the education of women through the use of technology.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Communicate frequently and effectively to the college community about technology projects and issues
  • Provide planning to enhance and support data, voice, and network infrastructures and services.
  • Partner with the faculty in providing for and encouraging development of innovative uses of technology in teaching, learning and scholarship.
  • Provide leadership for the development and maintenance of college-wide technology standards, policies and service agreements.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic technology plan and associated tactical technology plans.
  • Participate in and contribute to strategic planning of the College at all levels to insure use and integration of appropriate technology resources
  • Serve on the Teaching and Learning with Technology Roundtable (TLTR) and guide the development of the Huisking Instructional Resource Center, the Trumper Center, and other programs providing information technology support for teaching and learning.
  • Partner with the library in development of electronic resources and information literacy initiatives.
  • In partnership with relevant constituents, develop new technologies to meet divisional/departmental needs.
  • Develop internal IT policies and procedures designed to improve work procedures and service quality.
  • Review IT staff skills and develop appropriate training plans.
  • Develop and monitor college technology budgets and project budgets.
  • Provide leadership for competitive technology procurements, vendor negotiations, and vendor partnerships.
  • Collaborate with colleagues from other institutions to achieve mutual benefits.
  • Keep abreast of, and apply to the college, federal and state laws and policies that affect the management or use of technology or information.
  • Ensure that the implementation of technology will occur in an integrated manner designed for the benefit of both academic and administrative purposes.
  • Research and disseminate information to the college community on technology and best practices in the use and management of technology. 
  • Work with the College Advancement staff in finding new grant and funding opportunities for technology development and innovation at the College.
  • Teach a course when able and needed by the relevant college academic department.
