Classes don’t start for another six weeks, but first-year students are getting a jumpstart on the academic year. From financial aid to their first laptop, athletics and student clubs, new students are learning all they need to know about their future at Saint Mary’s.
It’s time for Summer Orientation—four days in June during which members of the Class of 2013 come to campus for their first taste of College life. The admission office has plenty of tips and tactics to see them through their introduction to Saint Mary’s, presented in a day packed full of presentations and opportunities for Q&A.
Students have traveled from across the country to tour the residences halls, attend sessions on topics like financial aid and study abroad, and to meet with their advisors. Each new student will have lunch with her advisor, and then meet again later to go over her class schedule and get her questions answered. The meetings are these students’ first experience of mentoring at Saint Mary’s. Throughout their college careers, students work closely with their academic advisors, career counselors, and professors. That’s just one advantage of joining a campus community where students are the number one priority.
