ANGOLA, Ind. - The Saint Mary's College golf team is currently in second place after shooting a 321 in day one at the Trine University Fall Invitational.
Leading the field is the University of Indianapolis. The Greyhounds, who ended last season in a tie for third place at the NCAA Division II National Championships, fired a 307 at the Zollner Golf Course on the campus of Trine University. Leading the field is 2009 Division II Individual Champion Lyndsay McBride, who shot a 75 on Saturday.
The Belles were led by freshman Martyna Mierzwa, who shares second place after carding a 76 in her collegiate debut. Mary Kate Boyce also broke into the 70s in the first round of competition this fall with a 79 for sole possession of seventh place.
Natalie Matuszak holds a share of 11th place after shooting an 82 on Saturday. Rosie O'Connor, meanwhile, was just two strokes behind Matuszak with an 84 for a tie for 13th. Christine Brown added an 89 to round out the scoring five for the Belles.
Perri Hamma (87, t-16), Michelle Hird (90, t-21), Andrea Fritsch (90, t-21), Cara Kielty (90, t-21), and Megan Ryan (92, t-27) all played as individuals for the Belles on Saturday.
The two-round invitational will conclude tomorrow.
