
The 2007 fall golf season saw the Belles golf program reassert themselves as perennial contenders not only in the MIAA but on the national level as well.
Highlighting the season for the Belles was the outstanding play of Katie O’Brien. The senior was the top scorer in each of the six events Saint Mary’s competed in. She claimed tournament medalist honors in two of three MIAA Jamboree events en route to earning season medalist honors by posting a season scoring average of 80.25. The senior helped continue a strong tradition of golf success at Saint Mary’s by becoming the fourth Belles golfer in the last five years to earn the league’s top honor.
Emily Gore was a solid scorer for the Belles through out the season. During her first year on campus she earned a top 20 finish in four of the six events she competed in. Her scoring average of 87.11 was the second best mark on the team. The native of Richmond, Ind., was even better in MIAA competitions were her average round was 86.4 which earned her Second-Team All-MIAA accolades.
A trio of other first year players help bolster the Belles scoring line-up. Rosie O’Connor was the Belles third best scorer in league events were she averaged an 88.6 in her five rounds during MIAA competition just missing out on All-Conference honors. Amanda Mainstone also averaged a sub-90 scoring average for the Belles in the six tournaments she competed in posting an 89.25. Michelle Hird was a steady competitor for head coach Mark Hamilton with an average round of 89.33 in helping the Belles to a third place finish in the league standings.
Two juniors were predominant players all season as Meredith Fantom and Perri Hamma provided key contributions for the Belles. Fantom competed in five tournaments were she posted an average round of 88.38. Hamma also played in five events and posted an average score of 90.29.
