Faculty members at Saint Mary's Saint Mary’s faculty are experts in their fields who hold degrees from prestigious universities such as Brown, Notre Dame, Princeton, and Stanford. They focus on teaching and making you their priority in the classroom. They’ll draw you into conversation and engage you in activities. Statistics
Eighty-seven percent of Saint Mary’s faculty have terminal degrees in their fields. You’ll learn in small classes averaging 16 students, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1. Our staff includes 128 full-time and 80 part-time faculty members.

Achievements
Saint Mary’s faculty have tremendous credentials and achievements. Recent faculty accomplishments include:

  • The Maria Pieta Award for teaching excellence awarded to modern languages associate professor Jennifer Zachman in 2007.
  • Choice Award for outstanding academic titles in 2005 won by political science professor Sean Savage.
  • Educator of the Year awarded in 2004 by the American Woman's Society of CPAs to accounting professor Claude Renshaw.
  • Woman of the Year in education awarded to English and women’s studies professor Astrid Henry at the South Bend YWCA Tribute to Women luncheon.
  • 2007 Woman of the Year award to communicative disorders professor Susan Latham from the Student Board of Governance on behalf of the student body.
  • Artist-in-residence with the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra for the 2007–08 season awarded to music professor Jeff Jacobs, who will also be the featured guest artist at the Festival of Work Music at the Jakarta Conservatory in Jakarta, Indonesia in August 2007.
