Italian Program

To further enhance our program, language clubs and foreign study opportunities are available as well. Study at Saint Mary's campus in Rome is strongly encouraged for students considering a major or a minor in Italian. Learn more about the Saint Mary's College Rome Program.

 

Major in Italian (24 hours)

  • MLIT 310 Advanced Italian Grammar

  • MLIT 320 Italian Cinema 1945 - 1965
  • MLIT 350 Italian Short Story (14th - 20th Centuries)
  • MLIT 360 Italian Cultural Studies (19th - 20th Centuries)

  • MLIT 362 Italian Theater (16th - 20th Centuries)
  • MLIT 410 Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio
  • MLIT 420 Renaissance and Baroque Masterpieces
  • MLIT 430 Italian Novel (19th – 20th Centuries)

Courses Scheduled for Fall Semester, 2010

  • MLIT 101: Introductory Italian I: Designed to give beginning students a basic knowledge of the language. Recommended for prospective students of the Saint Mary’s College Rome program.
  • MLIT 103: Italian Conversation & Reading I: Designed to develop simple Italian everyday conversation and to introduce the student to Italian culture. Recommended for prospective students of the Saint Mary’s College Rome program.
  • MLIT 111: Intermediate Italian: Review of Italian grammar with concentration on more advanced grammatical structures, vocabulary building, conversation, and written expression.
  • MLIT 123: Intermediate Italian Conversation I: Practical dialogues for daily life in Italy.
  • MLIT 303: Introduction to Italian Literature I: Introduces students to Italian literature through 1700 and to the literary movements and works in the vernacular that established Italy’s place in world literature.
  • MLIT 306: Advanced Italian Conversation: This course is intended to develop the student’s oral skills to be able to communicate clearly and effectively in Italian.
