Belles Defeat Goshen to Begin Season

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - In a dual meet between Goshen and Saint Mary's, the Belles cross country team emerged with a 15-58 victory over the Maple Leafs on Wednesday afternoon.

The Belles swept the top eight places on the day as Julia Kenney led the way with a first place finish in 20:48 on the 5k course. Joanne Almond took second with a time of 21:03 and was followed up by Catie Salyer and her time of 21:22. Clare McVey and Emma Baker finished close together to wrap up the win as they crossed the finish line in times of 22:07 and 22:09, respectively.

Kristy Kucharski (22:14), Sam Wassel (22:17), and Lauren Easton (22:22) all finished together as well to secure the top eight spots for the Belles.

Saint Mary's will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Wabash this Saturday for their first multi-team meet of the 2010 season. Race time is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Saturday.
