Bridging Majors, Interests and Passions Seminar

Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 3-Feb. 19

6:30-8 pm

Over the course of six sessions, students will begin to explore personal values and career interests in relation to academic majors. Students who are "undecided" or "still deciding" on their major will have a better understanding of academic majors that align with their interests and passions. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Developing a better understanding of unique talents and interests as it relates to making a difference in the world
  • Utilizing career and values assessments
  • Exploring and understanding more about various vocational paths and post-graduate options
  • Researching career and academic options including participation in the Academic Majors Fair
  • Developing key decision-making skills as well as setting goals and creating action plans

 

Preparing for the Internship Search Seminar

Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 24-March 5

6:30-8 pm

Location: Spes Unica Room 135

Registration Deadline: Feb. 20

Over the course of four sessions, students will develop the skills necessary to conduct a successful internship search. Ideally suited for sophomores and juniors pursuing summer 2009, fall 2009, or spring 2010 internships. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Setting internship goals that relate to career and vocational interests and passions
  • Creating effective internship documents including résumés, cover letters and e-mail correspondence
  • Research internship opportunities and learning about essential internship searching resources
  • Mastering networking and interviewing skills
  • Developing customized action plans for securing internship opportunities

 

Making the Most of Your Internship Seminar

Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 24- March 31

6:30-8 pm

Location: Spes Unica Room 135

Registration Deadline: March 20

Over the course of three sessions, students will gather information and have a better understanding of how to make the most of their internship experience. Ideally suited for students participating in summer 2009 internships. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Understanding and developing internship learning agreements
  • Learning how to collaborate with a wide spectrum of personality types in the workplace
  • Developing skills to effectively communicate with supervisors and colleagues
  • Understanding general workplace expectations and developing business etiquette
  • Capitalizing on networking opportunities

 

Academic Majors Fair

Thursday, February 12

6:30 - 8:00 pm

Stapleton Lounge- Le Mans Hall

 

Students participating in the Bridging Majors, Interests and Passions Seminar as well as other students will have the opportunity to meet with and gather additional information from the various academic disciplines and departments at Saint Mary's College. After participating in this informational program, students will have a better understanding of the academic requirements, coursework offered, collaborative opportunities and potential career paths that each discipline offers. This information will be critical for students choosing a first major, double major and/or minor(s).

 

How to Get Money for Grad School

Monday, February 23

6:30 - 8:00 pm

Conference Room D, Lower Level, Student Center

 

Thousands of scholarship and fellowship opportunities exist for students or recent graduates; this program will provide an overview of how to access the resources for locating these funding opportunities. In addition, several College-nominated fellowship and scholarship opportunities will be discussed. This program is ideally suited for all students who are considering graduate studies.

 

Speed Networking Night

Wednesday, March 25

6:30 - 8 pm

Stapleton Lounge, LeMans Hall

 

Students will have the opportunity to meet with local alumnae, business and community leaders and human resources professionals in a "speed networking" format. This is a great opportunity for students to develop networking skills with the opportunity to develop leads on volunteer, internship and job possibilities. At the conclusion of the program, all participants will receive an "e-Rolodex" with profiles and contact information from all the participants.

 

Making the Career Fair Count

Monday, March 30
6:30 - 8 pm
Vander Vennet Theater, Student Center

In preparation for the 5th Annual INCC Career and Internship Fair, this program will be offered to help students learn how to appropriately network during the fair and follow-up with contacts after the fair. Topics that will be discussed include preparing for the career fair, developing a career fair strategy, presenting oneself to employers and following-up after the fair.

 

INCC Career Fair

Friday, April 3

10 am- 2 pm

IU South Bend, Student Activities Center
