The following sites provide useful information on resources for students attending the specific academic institution. The general guidelines and examples may be particularly useful to Saint Mary's students.
Leveraging Campus Career Resources to Facilitate Student Career Success
- Link departmental website to the Career Crossings Office (www3.saintmarys.edu/career-center).
- Distribute Survey of Career Options of SMC Alumnae handout to introduce majors to entry-level positions, graduate programs, and prospective employers engaged by SMC alumnae.
- Refer students to the Career Crossings Office for guidance on job/internship search tactics, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
- Use the Alumnae Resource Network database to facilitate career exploration and information interviewing with SMC alumnae. (Currently available at CCO and Counseling Center; could be expanded to access by department academic advisors).
- Download free career resources (internship and major employer guides). Click “Free Career Resources” in the menu to the left.
- Visit CCO (Spes Unica, Room 114) with majors to introduce majors to services, staff, and resources; invite CCO staff to classes for brief introduction of services.
- Co-sponsor career information and planning programs with the CCO. Recent successful collaborations involved Modern Languages hosting a visit by an alumna working for Protective Services with the U.S. Embassy in Turkey and Biology and Chemistry department hosting a visit by a senior executive from Abbott Laboratories.
- Generate faculty and student grant applications for funding for summer internships and The Collaborative Partners Development Program through INC@SMC (http://www.saintmarys.edu/~inc/)
- Encourage juniors and seniors to upload their resumes into Go BELLES on-line system for employer viewing and referral: http://www3.saintmarys.edu/career-center-recruiting
- Broaden distribution of job leads for SMC students by sharing information with CCO. Forward information to cco@saintmarys.edu.
- Build stronger relationships with alumnae, graduate schools and employers by sharing information on alumnae employment and career decisions with the CCO. Forward info to sjeffirs@saintmarys.edu.
