FAC Classes
Note: The listings below were for summer camps in 2011. Class descriptions for summer 2012 will be posted in January.
Art
Daily Class:
Learn how to design your own book jackets. With the basic paper-wrap construction, girls will use paint, collage and a number of other fun techniques to create a new look for their favorite books, or come up with a dazzling cover for their own imagined stories! This time it IS all right to judge a book by it's cover!
Performance Class:
A chance to create your very own book from start to finish! Learn how to construct a book step-by-step: binding the pages, attaching a cover, you can even create a clasp out of cord and buttons! Once you've got the body of the book, let your imagination fly and create the cover design and content for the pages. Illustrate your favorite fairy tale, write your own comic book adventure, whatever your creative dreams tell you!
Wearable Art
Regular class:
In the everyday classes girls will learn to make paper and fabric flowers. Once the processes have been taught the girls will have free range to make corsages, fascinators, broaches, Hawaiian leis, decorate a plan tank top, etc! It's time to stop and smell the roses!
Performance class:
In this class the girls will be working with their own silhouettes! The first day of class we will have wigs, hats, and accessories to help create a signature silhouette for each girl. These silhouettes will be the foundation to the two projects. First off each girl will have the opportunity to make a silhouette bag; we will also use lace & doliy silhouettes to add texture to our bags. In addition to creating a bag, each girl will make enough triple S (Signature Silhouette Stationary) to trade with everyone in the class! All the girls will go home with a unique set of stationary made by their classmates!
Creative Writing
Daily Class:
Imagine you had the opportunity to create your very own summer camp. What would it be like? Using Fine Arts Camp as their inspiration, campers will work collaboratively to invent a summer camp that they think their friends would be crazy to miss out on! The campers will brainstorm and decide on all of the elements that make up any great summer camp—the name, theme, location, daily schedule, food, lodging, the camp t-shirt—and then create a packet of informational materials to advertise their camp to the masses. What summer camp will you choose to attend? Oh, the possibilities!
Performance Class:
What can you do with all those old magazines and catalogs laying around your house? Write “found poetry,” of course! Campers who specialize in Creative Writing will learn how to compose “found poetry,” a genre that allows them write poems that are entirely created using words, phrases, and sentences that have been cut out from existing texts. Campers will also discover how “found poems” can be transformed into beautiful, one-of-a-kind collages when words are combined with images on paper. The campers will be free to create “found poems” on any topic or theme. At the end of the week, the campers will get the opportunity to showcase one of their “found poems” to their friends and family in O’Lauglin Auditorium.
Dance
Daily class:
Take a chance and make a dance! When making “chance dances,” students will allow chance methods to determine the music they use, the other dancers in their group, the movements in the dance, and the order of those steps in the dance. Roll the dice, pick a card, spin the wheel, toss a coin, choose from the hat…the possibilities of creativity are endless!
Performance class:
We’ve got CAMP spirit, yes we do! We’ve got CAMP spirit, how ‘bout you? This summer you can show that camp spirit in dance performance class by writing camp cheers and choreographing dances to go along with them. You’ll even make your own pom poms! Three cheers for Fine Arts Camp!
Music

Regular Class:
Nominate your favorite recording artists for a Fine Arts Camp Grammy Award. We will look at the actual Grammy process and previous award winners while exploring and listening to a wide variety of musical artists and genres ranging from the Beatles to Taylor Swift. Groups will use their musical genius and creativity to nominate and present their favorite musical artist to the award committee. " And the Grammy goes to..."
Performance Class:
Campers who choose music for their performance class will be step into the world of CampGLEE. We will be learning a medley of songs and choreography from the television hit show Glee. These smash hits include Journey's Don't Stop Believin' and Katy Perry's Firework. Get your voices warmed-up, put on your dancing shoes, and get ready for a "GLEEtastic" time!
Theatre
Daily class:
Daily classes will focus on self expression and learning to tell stories through the use of voice, movement, laughter, playing, and general silliness. Theatre games will be used to encourage and strengthen the girls in perfecting the art of communicating with an audience. The class will be geared towards making each camper feel comfortable, empowered and excited in telling their own story, as well as others.
Performance class:
The young starlets who choose Theatre as their performance class will perform in two original plays. In the very ambitious time span of a week the campers will go through the casting process, learn their lines, learn their blocking, and finally at the end of the week give two stellar performances.
