Assessment Grants

At Saint Mary’s College, we seek to develop a culture that welcomes innovation and encourages constant improvement in teaching and learning. Our faculty grants in assessment are designed to support faculty as they work to improve the specific courses they teach, in particular as they reflect on what they hope students will gain in their courses (i.e., student learning outcomes) and as they develop ways of judging how well students are achieving those outcomes. In doing this work, faculty are especially encouraged to incorporate the College learning outcomes that have been approved by the Faculty Assembly.

The College seeks to promote innovation and improvement in both General Education courses and in courses in departments and interdisciplinary programs. However, since the General Education curriculum is currently being reviewed, grants are currently not available for work on General Education courses.

Individuals and programs or departments interested in assessment are always invited to contact the Assessment Committee to help them in carrying out their projects on the assessment of student learning. Current Committee members:

  • Jessica Ickes, Chair
  • Carrie Call
  • Carrie Erlin
  • Daniel Flowers
  • Kitty Green
  • Anita Houck
  • Larisa Olin Ortiz
  • Laurel Thomas
