HOLLAND, Mich. - Arguably the best season Saint Mary's College basketball history came to a close with a 77-47 loss in the MIAA Championship game on Saturday.
Both teams came out and scored on their first possession of the game. The Flying Dutch then used a 12-2 run to gain a 10 point lead five minutes into the game. The Belles kept things close by narrowing the gap to five points on a good jumper by Kelley Murphy with 12:28 left in the first half. The game remained within reach for the Belles until Hope used a 12-1 scoring outburst to close the half and take control of the contest with a 39-22 halftime lead.
Hope extended their lead in the second half as they pushed their home winning streak to 47 straight games with a 58-1 overall record at DeVos Fieldhouse.
The Belles finish the season with a school record 17 wins while making it to the MIAA Championship game for the first time ever.
Maggie Ronan led the offense for the Belles with a team-high 10 points. Anna Kammrath added nine points. Erin Newsom and Kelley Murphy each added eight points in the loss while Newsom had a team-high 10 rebounds.
