Saint Mary’s Sweeps Past Albion
October 16, 2007, NOTRE DAME, IN – In the final home match of the regular season, the Saint Mary’s volleyball team posted a 3-0 (30-25, 30-28, 30-27) win over Albion on Tuesday evening.
The win lifts the Belles record to 10-14 overall and 5-7 in MIAA play while Albion falls to 8-14 and 5-7 respectively.
In the first game, Saint Mary’s held their largest lead at 22-15 and never let Albion get closer than three points the rest of the game in taking a 1-0 edge in the match. The Britons jumped out to a 10-4 lead to start the second game but the Belles chipped away and eventually took the lead at 18-17. Neither team held a lead larger than three points the rest of the game. At 29-28, the duo of Jacee Watson and Andrea Sasgen posted a block against Morgan Watler to end the tight affair.
The Belles jumped out to an 11-2 edge in the third game but Albion fought back and took the lead at 20-19. However, it was their last lead of the game as Saint Mary’s swept the match.
Cathy Kurczak’s 16 kills tied her for match high honors. Kaela Hellmann posted a double-double with a 10-kill, 15-dig performance. Lorna Slupcnzyski also tallied a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs. Andrea Sasgen rounded out the double figure kill producers for the Belles with 11.
Amanda David, playing in her final home match, notched a 43-assist and 13-dig effort.
Watler tallied 16 kills and 14 digs to pace the Britons.
